Dr. Bugsu Ovunc is a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist known for her expertise in treating complex childhood lung conditions. With a strong foundation in both clinical medicine and academic research, Dr. Ovunc brings unmatched dedication to every child she cares for.
She earned her MD/PhD from Hacettepe University, one of Turkey’s most prestigious medical institutions, and completed postdoctoral research in genetics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. With over 1,200 academic citations, Dr. Ovunc continues to contribute to groundbreaking research in pediatric lung disease.
Dr. Ovunc completed her clinical training at Boston Children’s Hospital, the pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. She now serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine, and provides care at both Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach and Torrance Memorial Medical Center, where she has been on staff since 2019.
She is also a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), having founded the first Pediatric & Adult PCD Clinic at Miller Children’s Hospital. Dr. Ovunc plays an active role in the Children’s Interstitial Lung Disease Research Network (chILD-RN), helping advance the science and treatment of rare pediatric lung conditions.
