Meet Our Founder
Dr. Brian Modena, Director & CEO

Growing up with asthma and allergies in a small West Virginia community shaped Dr. Brian Modena’s interest in allergy and immunology. At Modena Health, he combines clinical history, examination, and appropriate testing to help patients understand their diagnoses and care options. food allergies One Step at a Time
Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) for Pediatric Patients
Food allergy care requires an individualized assessment. Depending on diagnosis, clinical history, goals, and medical suitability, a clinician may discuss oral immunotherapy, sublingual immunotherapy, other management options, or continued avoidance with an emergency plan.
OIT involves gradually introducing small amounts of the allergen under strict medical supervision. By gradually increasing exposure, OIT aims to desensitize the immune system, allowing individuals to gradually review care goals to the allergen. For qualified patients, OIT may support day-to-day planning for food allergy care. With our experienced allergist San Diego patients are carefully evaluated to determine if OIT is the right choice. We prioritize patient safety and provide close monitoring throughout the OIT journey. Through regular appointments and ongoing support, we empower patients to understand their condition and manage their food allergies with confidence. Schedule a consultation today to see if food allergy might be the immunotherapy solution you’ve been seeking.

Our philosophy Personalized, Proactive, & Precise
The Modena Patient Experience
Our philosophy centers around four core tenets designed to provide each patient with a truly exceptional experience and ongoing support: personalized care, cutting-edge treatments, patient empowerment, and building strong relationships.
Our evaluation process considers symptoms, medical history, examination findings, and testing when appropriate. The care team uses this information to discuss a personalized allergy and asthma care plan, including expected benefits, limitations, alternatives, and follow-up.
At Modena Health, we are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care that helps you live a full and fulfilling life.

Embrace Food Freedom
Specialists in Food Desensitization
Food allergy desensitization is a medically supervised treatment that uses measured allergen doses. For an eligible patient, the treatment goal may be to increase the reaction threshold while dosing continues. It is not a cure, reactions can occur, and ongoing dosing, safety planning, and follow-up may be required.

Transforming Asthma Care
Asthma Testing and Treatment
Asthma has no cure, but it can often be managed with an individualized plan. Chest tightness, wheezing, shortness of breath, or recurrent cough may warrant evaluation because several conditions can cause similar symptoms. Asthma testing and treatment depend on clinical history, examination, lung-function testing when appropriate, severity, triggers, and response to therapy.

Overcoming Inhalant Allergies
Inhalant Allergy Desensitization
Allergen immunotherapy uses controlled allergen exposure over time and may be considered for selected patients with clinically relevant environmental allergy. The clinician reviews diagnosis, expected benefit, duration, alternatives, and the possibility of local or systemic reactions before treatment.

Finding Answers
Skin Testing
Allergy skin testing, including skin-prick testing, may evaluate selected environmental or food allergens when the clinical history supports it. A positive result shows sensitization but does not by itself prove that an allergen causes symptoms; the clinician interprets results with the history, examination, and test controls.

Uncover Your Skin’s Sensitivities
Patch Testing
Patch testing may help evaluate delayed contact allergy to selected substances. Results must be interpreted with the timing and location of the rash because a positive reaction does not always establish clinical relevance. When relevant, the care plan may include practical avoidance guidance and follow-up.

Unlock the Secrets of Your Immune System
Immunology Testing
Recurrent or unusual infections can have many causes and require careful evaluation. When clinically indicated, an allergy and immunology clinician may review infection history, prior records, medications, family history, and laboratory results before recommending additional testing or a management plan.
