Dr. Bugsu Ovunc is a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist with a distinguished background in both clinical care and academic research. She earned her MD/PhD from Hacettepe University, one of Turkey’s most prestigious medical schools, and completed advanced postdoctoral research in genetics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. With over 1,200 academic citations, Dr. Ovunc is a respected contributor to the field and remains deeply committed to advancing pediatric lung disease research and improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Ovunc completed her clinical training at the renowned Boston Children’s Hospital, the pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. She now serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine, and practices at both Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach and Torrance Memorial Medical Center, where she has been a valued specialist since 2019.
Dr. Ovunc has made significant contributions to advancing the treatment of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), founding the first Pediatric & Adult PCD Clinic at Miller Children’s Hospital and leading research in this area. She is also involved in the Children Interstitial Lung Disease Research Network (chILD-RN), helping to further the understanding of pediatric lung diseases.
