Explore Life With Confidence

Modena Health

Our Long Beach clinic provides pediatric and adult care for food and environmental allergies, asthma, and immune-related concerns. At our Woodruff Avenue office, the clinician reviews symptoms, prior treatment, and the questions you want the visit to answer. Together, you can discuss which tests or treatment changes may help and what follow-up is needed.

Pediatric Allergist in Long Beach

A child may arrive at our Woodruff Avenue clinic with a new concern or with test results and treatment from another practice. Both situations call for a clear review of what has happened so far. Our Long Beach team considers the diagnosis, response to care, and the family’s day-to-day questions when planning the next step.

  • Bring each inhaler, spacer, and written plan. We review whether coughing, wheezing, interrupted sleep, or urgent visits continue, how medicines are taken, and any barriers to obtaining them. The discussion can identify what needs reassessment and how the plan should be used between appointments.

  • Ingredient labels, a record of the meal, symptom timing, and emergency-care notes can clarify a suspected reaction. Prior test results are interpreted alongside that account. Families can discuss safe avoidance, emergency readiness, and whether another test or a separately arranged supervised procedure is appropriate.

  • Tell us which areas itch, when sleep is affected, and how the skin responds to moisturizers or prescribed treatment. Photos from different days help when a rash is less visible during the visit. The assessment considers whether an allergy question, skin-care change, or specialist referral needs attention.

  • Compare school days, weekends, different rooms, animal exposure, and time outdoors. That history helps explain persistent nose and eye symptoms without choosing tests only from the local environment. We can discuss relevant testing and practical options for managing symptoms.

  • When care has involved several offices, original diagnoses and treatment records can reveal a pattern that a simple illness count misses. We assess complications, recovery, and earlier findings to decide whether an immune evaluation would help.

Make the care plan clear to everyone who uses it Bring any current school or caregiver action plan and identify what needs clarification. Ask which medicines are used routinely, what to do when symptoms worsen, and when follow-up is needed. The office can explain whether a requested test, procedure, or form needs additional preparation or a separate visit.

The Long Beach team provides allergy, asthma, immunology, and pediatric respiratory evaluation for patients of different ages. Individual response and follow-up needs vary.

The Long Beach care team emphasizes clear explanations, shared decisions, and follow-up. Provider profiles document individual roles and backgrounds; a consultation is needed to determine which evaluation or management option fits a patient’s needs.

Our OIT protocols take a personalized approach to immune system retraining, specifically designed to meet each patient's unique needs.

Food allergy immunotherapy uses measured allergen doses under a clinician-directed protocol. Eligibility, dosing, risks, treatment goals, and ongoing safety requirements differ by patient. It is not a cure, and reactions can occur during treatment.

"When should I see an allergist?"

We're here for you.

Before making major lifestyle changes because of suspected allergy, an allergist can review symptoms and exposures and decide whether targeted testing is appropriate. Results have limitations and must be interpreted with the clinical history.

At-home food sensitivity tests should not be used alone to diagnose food allergy or guide major dietary restrictions. An allergist can review the reaction history, select targeted testing when appropriate, and discuss avoidance, prescribed epinephrine, and an emergency action plan.

Persistent sinus or suspected allergy symptoms can have several causes. A clinician can review symptom patterns, prior treatment, examination findings, and appropriate testing before recommending medical care, monitoring, or referral.

Food-allergy preparedness includes knowing the diagnosed allergens, reading labels, following the written emergency plan, and keeping prescribed epinephrine accessible. Suspected anaphylaxis requires immediate action according to that plan and a call to 911.

Immunologist in Long Beach

An immune concern often comes with records from primary care, urgent care, or another specialist. At Woodruff Avenue, our pediatric and adult immunology evaluations bring that information into one clinical history. We consider what is already established, what remains uncertain, and which specialist question should be addressed next.

  • Bring infection diagnoses, cultures when available, medicines prescribed, complications, and hospital records. Knowing how each episode resolved helps the Long Beach clinician assess whether the overall course suggests an immune problem or needs a different explanation.

  • Compare original results over time.

Complete laboratory reports show the dates, measurements, and reference ranges needed for interpretation. Depending on the concern, the assessment may involve blood counts, immunoglobulins, or antibody responses. Existing results can help determine whether repeat or additional studies are needed.

  • An eosinophil result needs to be connected to symptoms and the organ involved. Endoscopy, biopsy, imaging, or breathing-test reports may already contain relevant evidence. We can help determine how immunology fits with gastroenterology, pulmonology, dermatology, or another specialty involved in care.

  • Define who manages the next stage.

The consultation should identify any remaining information gap and the reason for monitoring, testing, treatment, or referral. If several clinicians are involved, ask who will review results and manage each condition. Not every abnormal finding needs the same response.

Before transferring or continuing immunology care Tell the Long Beach office about an existing diagnosis and the main reason for the appointment. Gather the referral, previous specialist notes, vaccine history, and current medicines. Original reports are more useful than a summary that only says a result was abnormal.

What Should I Bring to My Appointment?

Your first visit helps us understand your symptoms and health history so we can plan your care; if available, please bring:

  • All inhalers, spacers, and current action plans
  • Reaction details, labels, photographs, and emergency records
  • Prior allergy testing and a current medication list
Don’t have everything? That’s okay. We can still get started and determine what information or testing may be helpful.

Coordinate the Pieces of Your Care

What should a Long Beach allergy visit accomplish?

A productive visit should define the current concern, review what has already been tried, and end with a clear next step. That may mean confirming which exposures merit testing, checking asthma control and inhaler technique, updating an emergency plan, reviewing a chronic skin or sinus problem, or deciding that another specialty should participate. Not every patient needs testing at the first appointment.

Bring all inhalers and spacers to the Woodruff Avenue office if breathing symptoms are part of the visit. For a possible food or medication reaction, write down the exact product, amount or dose, timing, symptoms, and treatment. Ask before arrival whether the planned appointment includes a procedure, test, or observation period and whether normal medicines should be continued.

This information supports an efficient visit but does not replace the clinician’s individual assessment.

Planning Questions

Allergy and immunology questions in Long Beach

The clinic is at 3816 Woodruff Avenue, Suite 209, Long Beach, CA 90808. Review the clinician and location in your appointment confirmation. For questions about the visit or office access, call the Long Beach team at 562-496-4749.

Yes. The local team cares for pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Ashley Sandoval completed pediatric residency and adult and pediatric allergy and immunology fellowship training. Tell the office your child’s age and reason for the visit so staff can confirm the appropriate appointment.

Bring the original skin or blood-test reports, the symptoms that led to testing, and the treatment tried afterward. The Long Beach clinician can interpret those findings in context and decide whether they answer the current question. Previous testing does not automatically need to be repeated, nor does it rule out further evaluation.

Bring every inhaler and spacer currently used, the written action plan if one exists, a medication list, and any recent lung-function or emergency-care records. Note missed doses or problems obtaining medicines as well. These details help distinguish a treatment issue from a problem using or accessing the prescribed plan.

Bring both sets of instructions and describe where they are unclear or difficult to follow. The visit can review the diagnosis, medicines, and action plan for the child’s current needs. Ask the Woodruff Avenue office in advance about any school forms or documentation you need completed.

Record the foods, ingredients, amount eaten, time to symptoms, and treatment given. Bring packaging, photographs, and emergency records when available. Our food-allergy evaluation uses that event history to decide which questions testing may help answer; do not recreate the reaction at home.

Collect diagnoses, dates, culture results where available, antibiotic or other treatment courses, and records of complications or hospital stays. Add previous immune laboratory reports and vaccine history. This helps the Long Beach immunologist assess the sequence and severity of infections rather than relying on an approximate count.

Not on its own. The count must be considered with symptoms, medicines, and findings from the affected organs. Our eosinophilic-disease information explains why blood-count trends, pathology, imaging, and existing specialist reports may be relevant to the assessment.

Yes. Participation and benefits can differ by clinician, location, and service, even within the same practice. Before the Woodruff Avenue appointment, confirm your plan’s referral and authorization rules and ask about the expected consultation or tests. Review our insurance information and verify the details directly with your insurer.

Confirm whether the appointment is a consultation, test, treatment follow-up, or observed procedure. These visits can have different preparation and scheduling needs. Call 562-496-4749 for current appointment options and instructions before changing medicines or arranging your day around a longer procedure.
